What is Iridology
Iridology is the science and practice that reveals inflammation, where located and what stage
it is manifesting. The iris reveals body constitution, inherent weakness, broken bones, levels
of health and the transitions that take place in a person’s body according to the way he lives.
Through the application of iridology, it is possible to observe normal and abnormal reflex signs.
It does not compare all people together to create a normal, but rather compares an individual’s
strenghts and weaknesses; a weak organ in a strong body produces different characteristics, yet
It is still a weakness for that person.
How Did it Originate?
In the 1800’s a young boy, of age eleven Ignatz Von Peczely, was trying to free a frightened
owl trapped in his garden when he accidentally broke one of its legs. Both Von Peczley and the
owl starred in each others eyes and there was a dark mark at 6 o’clock where the leg was broken.
Von Peczley nursed the owl back to health and released it when it was well. However, the bird
stayed on in his garden for several years, and Von Peczley observed later the appearance of
white and crooked lines in that part of the eye where the black stripe had been located. This
made a strong impression on the boy and remained in his memory. Von Peczley later became a
physician and had the opportunity to study the irises of many patients as he worked on the
surgical ward. He grew certain that there existed a reflex relationship between tissue changes
in the body and iris markings and developed the first iris chart, which has been continually
researched and revised over the years.
Von Peczley, who became the “father” of iridology was born in Egervar near Budapist, Hungary,
on Jan 26, 1826. He passed in 1911.
How Does it Work?
The iris of the eye is the most complex tissue of the body meeting the outside world. It is an
extension of the brain, being incredibly endowed with hundreds of thousands of nerve endings,
microscopic blood vessels, muscle and other tissues.
The iris is connected to every organ and tissue of the body by way of the brain and nervous
system. The nerve fibers receive their impulses by way of their connections to the optic nerve,
optic thalami and spinal cord. Both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are present
in the iris.
In this way, nature has provided us with a miniature television screen showing the remote
portions of the body by way of nerve reflex responses. We are discovering that the eye works
two ways: to bring images of the outside world within and shows images of what is within to the
outside.
Nerve fibers in the iris respond to changes in body tissues by manifesting a reflex physiology
that corresponds to specific tissue changes and locations.
The scientific explanation of exactly how this process works neurologically is still
forthcoming. Much research is being devoted to a clearer understanding of this phenomena.
The iris reveals an individual’s strengths and weaknesses and what has been done to the body
through correct living habits. It also reveals the wonder of one who has lived a good life
according to the laws of the universe.
The iris chart, is the result of many years of clinical observations and intensive research by
Dr. Bernard Jensen and represent the basic placement of organs and tissues as would a map.
What Will it Show?
The iris will show whether a person exhibits a good constitution or a poor one, depending upon
the density of the iris fibers. The pattern structures, colors and degrees of lightness and
darkness in the iris tell an area of the body is inherently strong or weak. It shows irritation,
injury or degeneration of tissues and organs. Toxic accumulation levels, nutritional and chemical
imbalances are also seen and recorded in the iris.
What it Will Not Show
It will not show or name a specific disease but will provide information about the body tissues which
indicate tendencies toward conditions of “dis-ease”, often before symptoms appear. Iridology will
not reveal surgery preformed under anesthesia as nerve impulses are discontinued.
